Can someone identify this cedar chest?

Chest is a approx 41"L x 15" W x 21"D. Got at secondhand shop. No name or markings on it anywhere. Piece is all wood with cedar lining about 3/4" thick. I would love to know who maker is and what year it was made. Thanks

did you look at the bottom for possible mark, It seems old but I don't think it really is. also are there nails in it anywhere or is it all tongue and groove/ It actually looks like a Stereo Box my mother had when I was a kid in the 70's it opened like that and everything. Some people gutted them and used them for storage when the 8 tracks died. LOL

The brass rings, if they are even brass don't seem old to me. Old in the United State and Old in Europe are two different things. So you think it's over 50 to 100 years old, No, I don't think so. The in-lays on the front don't seem old style to me either. But, the picture is kinda dark and hard to see too. Maybe a cedar chest in the 70s, maybe. My best guess.

By the way it's a nice piece, maybe change the handles and give it a fresh more updated feel, or you could calk the bottom and leave the top with that beautiful wood finish. Me, I love all wood, I'd just give it some updated handles and display it with pride in a special place.

It resembles my hope chest -late 60s early 70s. Lane was the manufacturer.

I agree, Lane cedar chest. They would give you a mini one if you came in the store back when I graduated-1974. Very nice,werent super cheap.

A Lane cedar chest was my first guess also. There were a lot of those sold, especially in the 60's and 70's. Of course, that does make it close to 50 years old.

Did you flip it over to look for a branding mark on the bottom? My Lane had a " Lane" mark branded into it.

Lane was the main brand for cedar chests back in the 50`s , maybe even earlier. I would google Lane Cedar Chests and their history.

Most of my friends in the 50's & 60's received Lane cedar chests as I did. All of us was given a small Lane chest when we graduated from high school. That style looks similar to that design back then. I lost mine in a flood and I really miss it. It came in really handy for storing linens. I think mine also had the word Lane branded on the inside wall of the chest.

I think its from the 50s era, I doubt its lane they always had a marking. but there was some cheaper ones for high school grads. so Im thinking its an off brand. dont mean its no valuable tho. good luck!

Lane always merged their pieces, so if you don't see a mark it's not a Lane. Not sure without a mark though!

I got the small one and still use it for my small jewlery pins....my brother made me one in wood shop, so didn't need to buy one...I still have that one too....55 years old now!

I hate to disagree with everyone else, but I don't think it's a Lane. I think it's a blanket chest built by Thomasville. It matches exactly the same style as the bedroom set my parents had, which I only recently sold after their passing. It was manufactured in the late 60's/early 70's. The panels, shapes, and rings are exactly the same, but the color of my parents is a little less rich, more of a Walnut ashy shade. Another thing, Lane's cedar chests were branded inside the lid after the 1950's some time with their logo. A warranty was also stapled to the inside lid of the chest for the chest and contents against moth damage and stuff. You should be able to contact Thomasville and send them this picture to verify it.

@bble- My parents bought a Cedar Chest in the early or late forties and it's a Lane. Both of them have passed but I have it now. They got married in 1941 so I know they got it close to then. The design is different than yours. The design on ours has a diamond shape in the middle and it repeats itself every half inch or so until the pattern is through. That's in the middle on the front. Beside of that, on both sides it doesn't have a design. On the inside, it still has the stamp advertising Lane. And another sign advertising an insurance company named Aetna. It was made in Altavista Virginia. That's all I know about ours except it needs some restoration work done to it, but I'm afraid to trust anybody with it. So I'm going to get some books and read up on it and do it myself. Good Luck finding out what you're looking for.

If it was a Lane cedar chest, if would be marked inside (top left or right side). If it's not identify, it doesn't really matter. Give it a nice makeover and enjoy it's!
