If you don't get the answer on here, try taking an affected leaf to your local nursery. They should be able to tell you what it is and what to do about it.

Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas.
  • they may be aphids and if you just give the plants a shower and wash them off. aphids do not like rain or water and wind so this would be my first solution to try. then Try that first then try an insecticidal soap or even a soapy mixture of ivory and water and give them a bath. good luck

@Traceycater Rain—even a Florida downpour—will not wash aphids away. You need to make sure you use a hose with a good blast of water and spray the undersides of the leaves as well. If you do not use a commercial insecticidal soap, make sure that you use a mild soap. Many household soaps are actually too strong and will strip essential oils from a plant's leaves, making them more vulnerable.

Soapy water will kill them instantly

@Pamela Langone Thank-you, as above in The garden frog boutique's answer, I am going to try the soap, we are hoping this will get rid of them. I want fall cucumber's!!!

Looks like scale to me, are the leaves sticky too? It's pretty common on household plants but I suppose it could be on outside plants as well. Soap and water may get it but when I worked at an interior plant company we used rubbing alcohol or murphy's oil soap...I don't think either would be good for something that you would eat!

@Kelly T Yes, can't use murphy's for cucumbers, don't know if it would effect the taste. So far most answers are using the soap wash, which we will do when it stops raining!!! Thank-you!!!
