Easy
No sanding, no fuss, under $40! Glidden Vanilla Shake at Walmart in the premixed gallons. Krylon Brushed Nickel spray paint.
Finished in 3 off and on days.
Started with everything on the hinges, which was fine for awhile, but broke down and took the doors down and off the hinges, removing the handles as well. Actually, removing and re-hanging them was really not difficult. The hinges were good quality, and stayed open while I took out, and replaced the hardware.

I used a microsponge type small roller (also from Walmart) which came in a kit with a tray.
Original look
The paint has built-in primer, but with no sanding, I opted for several coats. I only used about a quart. I did inside the frame also to match the inside, where the frame met the painted drywall and shelves.
Finished product
I love the whole transformation, the price, and that it was cheap! I plan on painting my kitchen with a similar color, as well as spray painting the hardware. New hardware runs at LEAST a dollar to 3 dollars each. We have about 40 of these handles throughout the house so I will NOT waste the money when I can get an updated and classy look for much less!
Now I need to do the one in the hall!
The grooves took a lot of coats, it soaked up paint over n over. But not a huge deal.
