"Stick on" carpet tiles on my new vinyl plank flooring? would it work?

I am still having difficulty in finding a runner for the hallway to help with covering the vinyl planking we just put down. Do you think putting down stick on carpet tiles would work?

The runners I have seen and tried are not very pretty and some are very expensive or very cheap. The hard hall way floor is noticeably hard on my back compared to the carpet that was there.And winter is comng. I am still in search of....

Stick on carpet is pretty thin...most regular carpet is set over a pad of some type so you get 2 cushion layers working for you. The trouble with stick on is that the glue residue my permanently ruin your vinyl flooring. Since this flooring (vinyl) is new it would be a shame to ruin it.

If the runners you find attractive are a bit thin you may be able to find some under rug padding.

I would fee better about something like the link above...this could be lightly secured to the new vinyl with some double sided carpet tape to prevents slippage or movement.

Thanks Kevin, I didnt think about how thin they are, and now that I do think about it, they ARE very thin. Do you think a "rubber" backed runner would leave any marks? I need about 20 feet, so this is why it has become a quest! I can do several throw rugs linked together, or one long runner. But the ones I have tried are too busy or look dirty being a weird beige. If ?rubber? backed would not leave marks on the vinyl, maqybe i could get a piece cut off a regular 12 ft roll by about 24-26 ...»
inches? I am calling it rubber backed, but I think you know what I mean. 20+ feet of carpet runner is a challenge!
I have checked out the tape to finish unbound carpet,, about 5 bucks for just maybe 3 feet. hmmm

I agree with KMS on this Bernice, any glue based backing on carpet tiles will cause issues with vinyl. If it was tile it would be a different story, even wood. But the chemicals used to make the adhesive on the carpet backing may react with the vinyl causing it to stain or mess up the surface in other ways.
Rubber backed runners or using a rubber backed pad for runners may be your best bet. I would ...»
suggest that you contact the manufacture of the flooring you have, most have a hot line, and ask them what you can do to put a runner down and prevent it from sliding. They may even have a product that they would suggest using. Otherwise you may risk loosing your warranty on the finish if what ever you use is not approved by the flooring manufacture itself.

Thanks Kevin , I checked out the site..they look nice, but I need 20 feet...yikes! I am sure eventually i will find something that works before winter, I may need to get several same type area carpets and just place them end to end. I did that already but they were a very busy pattern when on the floor , we didnt like it. But we'll keep looking.

Ahh, Just glue the carpet tiles to your slippers. lol. Then you have carpet where ever you walk. :-)

Update..costco has some nice beige throw carpets for 14 each. Heavy and very nice quality. 5 of them do very well down the hall! Solved for now.
