Water leaking down walls from bathroom

My plug (that is under neath the spicket) in the shower leaked down in my living room and it is on the ceiling. I am looking at that fake cement looking stuff (whatever you wanna call it?) This house was built in the 1925-30's. The other problem I had was my upstairs bathroom sink pipes leaked in the wall somewhere, and my bathroom is all very old tile (they dont sell it anymore). It leaked down inside the wall to my powder room through the medicine cabinet and down to the basement over the heater. what can I do? I have no money for a professional.

  • @Michele Bauer We need some more information. It appears that you have two issues your looking for answers to so you came to the right place. But the two questions are a bit confusing. Your saying your plug? under the spicket in the shower has leaked. Are you saying the drain? Or the drain handle/vent that is on side of tub has leaked? If you can take a photo of this device it will help a lot to get an answer. Your terms are not something that we are familiar with. Therefor difficult to determine what you mean. Older homes such as yours used lead drain pipes very often. These lead pipes tend to fail creating leaks that are often impossible to repair without opening the ceiling below so the pipe can be changed over to plastic. Your also are saying there was a leak from a upstairs bath that has leaked down to the basement,. Is this the same bath your speaking about? Or is it another bath that perhaps joins next to another one? Please describe as best you can what the issue is. If at all post some photos of the issues so it will become easier to answer your concerns. Plumbing can be a bit daunting but most can be done by the owner of the home once they understand the terms of what things are called and the tricks on how to make the repairs. Because of all the older homes in your area most plumbing supply companies provide the necessary parts needed to make these repairs. Most of the local Home Centers will not carry those special parts so you will need to understand that. Or you will have a difficult time trying to make the repairs with the newer materials that simply do not fit.
