How I turned spent Daylily Stems into Pretty Outdoor Decor

Have you ever wondered what to do with the spent stems once your Day lilies flower? In the past I have always picked them and tossed them aside. I then had an idea to pick them, trim the bottoms and spray paint them. After drying I placed them in an container and placed them on the patio outside. Great way to add more color to a space and interest! For full details on this project visit http://topthistopthat.blogspot.com/2012/07/a...

I thought If i have to put the effort in pull them , since they are so unsightly when they die down, I might as well make them pretty!:)

And you did just that Laura. I never would have thought to paint dried stems. Love the color you chose too.

Oh, neat idea. I am always loving the red stems at Christmas, but they are pricey...and I have lots of spent lilies.

I wonder if spent coral belles stems would work? They're not quite as sturdy....

I was just wandering around my yard today looking at things that I could work into floral arrangements. Thanks for sharing!

I have seen those and other 'spent' tall stems braided in a garden. Was really different.

Margaret- these would be excellent in floral arrangements and so versatile with color choices.

Incredible idea. Those lilies do get ugly and require a lot of clean up. You might as well get something good out of it!

I've always thought the spent scapes were rather sculptural, but never thought to capitalize on them.
