Good find. It's a nice-looking piece, and it looks like it's in good shape. Why do you insist on changing it? -
I'm just not sure the black will compliment the rest of the decor in the house. I may live with it for awhile. It's not like I don't have a ton of other stuff to keep me busy!! -
I love Annie Sloan's Emporer's Silk next to that green if they are staying in the same area. It would look great with baskets underneath or a great collection of ironstone/ white items. -
Gray and white are good neutral colors. Gray is especially hot right now. White, however, is always a classic. If you want a distressed look the chalk paint would be a great choice, but if you want it to look brand new, I'd spray paint it. Hope that helps :) -
The wall behind the table is that blue color. Not teal or green. I have browns, greens and blues in the house but really want to try and lighten things up a bit. There is a really colorful painting hanging above it so maybe one of those colors? I'm looking for a nice pop of color but not really sure what goes with browns, greens (sages) and blues! If you go to my blog and see the post about my Mamaw's buffet, you'll see what will be in the second niche as you walk in the door. Not lacking in color! Thanks for all the advice!! -
What a great find Jaye. I certainly wouldn't worry too much about painting it right away. Set it in place and add what you'd like to the top and lower shelf first and see what it tells you it should be. -
I like it! Live with it for awhile and look around for things you would like to put there and it will come to you what to do, if at all. -
I like the suggestion of baskets underneath. The color will depend on where you put it. If you have children or grandchildren and it is going in a den, pick up some of those large baskets with handles (like Easter baskets) and paint them different coordinating colors for the children to use as their "toy basket". This gives them a sense of organization and encourages them to think of the different ways something can be used. The baskets with handles make it easy for them to take ...» -
PS...if you decide to use this as a toy station for the kids, paint a small simple plaque reading "Toy Station" and hang it over the table. Then place some toys on top of the table as accent pieces, changing them out as the children choose or grow. -
Hey Jeannette - that's a great idea but one toy station in my casa is enough for me! What we ended up doing for the GK's is, you know in the 90's when builders would build a house with this ginormous hole in the wall where I guess you'd put a TV? Well, I had my son put shelves in there AND doors on it! So now it looks like a built in. And yes, I have cute containers with pictures of coordinating toys, like My Little Pony or Legos. But do you really think they put that stuff back and ...» -
Jaye, you may have to work with the kids reminding them it's time to put things away for awhile, but eventually they'll be telling you it's time to put things away. Sounds like you already have the right idea of with the labeled containers to make it a game of putting each item in it's correct container. Granted it's easier if their parents make them clean up at home, but if you remind them this is the way we do it at Gramma's then they'll learn. Mine did. -
paint yes, but there is a way that will work for wicker and a way that won't, I tried it without any prep, and it looked great for awhile, but then peeled (I used it outside though, so maybe dif. for inside?) Spray paint coats more evenly, but I think it has to be sanded first?, hope someone else can have more accurate info in how to do it... -
I think a nice neutral color on the entire piece, and three baskets on the bottom shelf. To add some color I think weaving some colorful ribbon through the wicker would look awesome.Even the colors you suggested that are in the home already. -
I'm thinking I like the neutral color idea and just use pottery or books or something like that to add the color. I'm on this "wheat" color kick and am wondering about chalk paint. I think I will definitely spray paint the wicker part first with a close match spray paint with primer or even a slightly darker hue. If that won't work I'll use Gripper. Gripper is the key to life.... -
Thanks everyone!!! As you can see from my last post I've arrived at a decision for my table and can't wait to get it done and post for all to see! I knew I'd have a ton of great ideas from the smarter people in the world!!! -
Gripper? Please explain. -
It's a primer you can get from Home Depot. I haven't seen it at Lowe's yet but I don't think it's a proprietary brand. Anyway, use that as your primer first and then paint. That paint ain't going nowhere! I painted all my metal file cabinets and laminate bookcases in the study with it. They can tint it closer to the shade you're needing which really comes in handy when you are painting something brown or black! I guess it's very similar to the Zinsser 123 brand. They are almost the ...» -
Thanks Jaye. I've never heard of that brand. -
I can't wait to see it when you get finished!
