Help with an old drop-sided maple stain coffee table

I would like to paint the bottom (legs) and stain the top a dark oak to match my other oak in the room. I need to update my room, so have gotten rid of my giant coffee table and end tables of 20 years, and go for something more airy but still use some of my antique pieces. Not an overly large room (20X15). Any suggestions?

Hi Chris! Are you asking how to stain the table top darker? Or just ideas on how to update your room?
