Goldenrod-Not Just Another Weed

Goldenrod (Solidago) is a common and somewhat misunderstood flower.
Yes, it is a flower and more specific a very important fall pollinator in nature. This native beauty is not what causes the fall pollen counts to rise. That would be ragweed and its leaves are nothing like the Goldenrod.
This is a flower commonly found as a filler in fall bouquets and is a readily and easily sown flower in the garden. You can even sow the seeds from the spent bouquets! So what a great deal, buy a bouquet and sow the seeds after you enjoy the vibrant yellow in the centerpiece.

This is the first year I noticed goldenrod growing in the tree line behind our house. Another one has popped up in a flower garden this year too. Kind of strange in the middle of town, but I think they are beautiful and they are certainly welcome to stay.
