Is it blocked or draining? If it's draining, you can try putting some baking soda in the drain and the slowly following it with vinegar.

If you take like comet or Ajax powder (very inexpensive) sprinkle generously over 2 or 3 cups of ice cubes if it's the disposal. Run water and turn on the disposal.

If you cannot clear the smell with the advice above, you may need to have your lines checked as mold or mildew could be an issue.

In our former house, we found that the pipe leading to the main drain wasn't sloped to the drain, and food particles would build up about halfway from the sink to the drain, eventually clogging the drain. Had to have the plumbing redone.

Funny you should ask because I have an abnormal sense of smell so odors drive me crazy! I have complained about a smell from the kitchen sink no one else could smell. Water drains properly and we have never had this problem in the 40 years we have lived in this house! Hubby got out his handy home fix it book and use a combination of baking soda and salt. He combined the 2 andpoured in down the drain...then followed with boiling water. It took a few minutes for the water to get ...»
through the salt and soda. Then he ran hot water through the drain while plunging! The book (one of those handy helpful hints books) said that cabbage was one of the big culprits and low and behold, a sliver of cabbage was brought up when he plunged! I was shocked. Now 3 days later, no smell....????? So far, so good....hopefully we will not have to call a plummer.

The problem was resolve by pouring bleach down the drain followed by hot water,,,, However, I did get baking soda and vinegar just in case that didn't work and I have salt and a plunger too, Thanks Guys for your suggestions.

There is a vent pipe connected to your drains that goes to your roof...often times something, like leaves, will fall down the pipe and plug off the fresh air venting that it's meant to do...be sure you don't have any obstructions in your vent pipe up top...if so, a shop vac works to clear it. You should never have smells coming up from your waste lines. Cleaning pipes with bleach or lemon juice is a great idea. I also put lemon, orange and grapefruit peelings in the garbage disposal on a regular basis, which keeps them smelling fresh.
