Well, I still have it! and I need good advice and instructions. I want to keep it because it gives me great storage space but it needs a new look. I would like the room to have a relaxing, peaceful look. The walls in the room have the light beigy look, flooring is maple. I'm thinking of a creamy shade? Hoping to get good suggestions and instructions.....
I have no idea on how to start this project. I am not familiar with painting melamine furniture. Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas.

Melamine is a plastic...google it to get info. There are spray paints for plastic and they may be special ones you can put on with a brush. I don't know if chalk paint will work or not. But I would try to paint these and accent with color and knobs instead of getting rid of them. Those narrow depth cabinets are hard to find!

I think Chalk Paint would be a great idea for these!

Just use a shellac-based primer available at Lowe's or Home Depot. Then you can use whatever you want over it. Good luck!

Ed Parrish Chesapeake Beach MD I've been a woodworker for over 35 years, I would recommend sanding with 80d paper for paint adhesion as nothing sticks well to plastic.
