Extending Your Growing Season
Here in Vermont we have a very short growing season. The ground is really too cold to plant until the end of May and we’ve been known to have a frost as early as Labor Day weekend! We haven't had a frost yet but our first frost is just days away and it's pretty much time to put the garden to bed. There are a few tricks I've learned to extend my growing season.
In the fall I use row covers to give me a few more weeks in the growing season. It's wonderful to be able to enjoy lettuce when the rest of the garden is finished!
I plant lettuce seeds in August and when the nights start getting colder I cover the lettuce with row covers.
The row covers protect the tender lettuce from frost and enables me to keep harvesting a few more weeks!

I think I'd move from row covers to duvet covers in an effort to keep my garden growing!
