We needed a large dog house...it was built from a cabinet ...TOTAL COST $20.00 !!!!!

We asked a friend to build us a large dog house. A few days later..he said he had an idea. He brought over these old cabinet. Cut 2 holes in the doors..which still open for easy cleaning. He put on a latch and a roof. We already have extra paint. THE TOTAL COST WAS UNDER $20.00!!!!!!!

    That's true...

    Good point, Becky. ;)

LOL, that's too cute. I guess guys just dont want to admit theyre as guilty of it as we are. You should hear me talk to the critters outside. I had a bird shaking it's head at me yesterday while talking to it. I'm guessing it either liked what I said or thought I was nuts. I think they understand what we say more than we think. :)

Its the humanity in us that puts words to our pets expressions. And what is so wrong with that? lol. You never know, we could be right.

Oh April, it's so nice I'm not the only one that talks to the critters outside. We have at least two praying mantis that like one of our flowering bushes a great deal and have taken up residence there. I talk to them every time I water the bushes telling them no worries I'm not going to hurt them. I think the one is the baby (about an inch long) I saw this spring on another bush. I've watched it grow and it's no longer afraid of me. The other one still seems a bit leery though it does ...»
"listen" to me. I love how they cock their heads to the side like they are really listening. Too funny for an insect!

I talk to the toads and grass hoppers too. Usually telling them not to jump on me. The grasshoppers I'm not so nice to though. I used to be afraid of them, but now I just despise them for eating our screens.

@Bernice she's an indoor dog...we built "doggie palace" Cause at the time she was new to us and my hubby was kind of afraid of her...but gradually he watched me with her and realized that she was making her best doggie effort to play nice and not bite when we played tug of war etc...and the next thing I knew...he'd invited her in...and now she's a house dog...LOL I call her "gator" cause she does this "nibbling" kind of thing when she's trying to get you to play with her Kong or rope ...»
etc...it's funny to see such a big animal "nibble" with the front of her mouth... I ran my hand into one of her teeth playing and it slit my hand open, no kidding...totally on me she was not doing a thing but standing there...It made me realize it is no small thing when an animal that could kill you, chooses to be your friend...

@Becky - I'm glad I'm not the only one! That is pretty rare to find that behavior in insects. But, I bet they enjoy having you to reassure them. I think it's not just the cats and dogs who can tell what a person is like and how much they care. Wow, I had no idea they eat screens.

You should've seen the bird I was talking to yesterday. I thought his head was going to fall off he was nodding so much LOL!

Troye M - LOL! Glad it's bringing a smile to your face! Thanks for opening this thread showing us your project and how much you care for your dogs, and letting us converse with animal stories. I'm glad I decide to jump in, too. I think the situation just got out of hand for awhile there - as a clash of ideas and opinions - sadly hijacking your thread with it. I'm glad all is calm now. :)

Sounds like a Kodak moment with the bird April. You had me laughing with that visual.

Troye, I was thinking the same thing. We're keeping the PETA folks away. ;^)

I wonder if my comment about how to report rude behavior helped? They don't feel so brave when they know they can get in trouble. Not that I'm not happy there are folks that care enough about animals to speak for them, but some just got a little too far when it comes to the blame game. Your ...»

doggie houses were obviously made out of love for your doggies.

Yes and although I felt sorry for my Gator, before she was a house doggie, she really had it made...we left the garage open for her to come in when she wanted, we had a fan in there all summer long and in the winter she also had the garage with a heater...in addition to the igloo dog house that she refused to use...on top of that I built a roofed Feed/Water stand to hold her food and water pans because she would not leave them inside the igloo and the birds and the weather made them ...»
disgusting...it's still out in the unused dog run...LOL... BUT the most afraid I've ever been of weather, was a horrible storm we had about five years ago...I was still working and the boss sent everyone home during a spate of tornados and as I topped a hill stopped at a red light i saw a tornado touch down in my neighborhood. My first thought was please dear god let the dog be alive...she had crawled under my husbands workshop and was fine. But needs tranq's everytime it thunder and lightnings now...

@Becky - Hee hee, yes it sure was a KODAK moment that is for sure. I only wish I could've caught it on film! That little guy always loves to come unto the window everyday and play. I have taken some pictures of him before though. He's the cutest little thing. Glad you're enjoying the animal conversations and stories, too. I know I am! As for your comment to reporting rude behavior, I'm sure it has helped. That's sort've what I was trying to say, in that though the intentions are good - it ...»
    just got out of hand.

@Sharron W - Oh my! Glad your dog was okay though! I can understand why she'd want to hide. Poor little thing.

LOL Sharron. I bet that was a fun experience. Though I'd have done the same thing then climbed in the shower to wash off as soon as my fur baby was calm.

Oh April you need to share the bird pictures. I would think that would be on topic under "gardening" wouldn't it?

I think your comment is what gave me the idea to look for a way to report bad behavior. I like ...»

to assume others comments are intended as kind, but when they kept coming back getting more rude I felt it was time to start reporting them. I try to put myself in the other persons shoes before assuming their intentions were bad. Sometimes I even walk away from my computer and come back later to read the "offending" comment again. Often I'll see them in a totally different light, but not always. At that point I have to either decide to ignore them or how best to deal with it. Always with the Thumper Rule in the back of my mind. And ofcourse there's always the choice to write a private message to clear things up off board too.

@Becky - I would love to share them! I take all kinds of pictures Cof creatures - anything that wants to visit our backyard. I feel really blessed to be able to do so. They may be sharp and they may be blurry, but any way that I can capture God's little creatures and then look back own them always makes me smile and I would love to share that.

Aw, shucks. :) I agree - I feel the very same way. Good point. That's the tricky thing about ...»

forums, sometimes it can get out of hand and you are faced with trying to decide how to handle it. I generally try to avoid reporting unless it starts to get personal. However, was getting pretty sticky here for awhile. I guess that's what happens when you get lots of people with different opinions all together in one spot.

@Marge......a too funny giggle as I was reading your comment about you talking to anything that breathes, I know a "person", ahem, who talks to INANIMATE objects, he talks to our cat too, but when the lawn mower doesn't do what he wants, he talks to it. When the rocks move in his way, he talks to them, When a planted pot is in his way,he talks to it, when the tv control misbehaves, he talks to it, you get the idea, but I am not telling who it is. However, this unnamed person never ...»
swears, he just can't understand how things get the way they are at the moment, and our cat , to whom he talks..just looks at him like, are you done now? Can we just get calm here? And give belly rubs?

@April I would love to see the bird pictures. @Sharron .. And now I am not afraid of "Gator"....a lap dog???? Who could be afraid of a lap dog?Even named "Gator?"

Its nice to hear that others talk to animals and things too. lol. We also have a lapdog. She is a 125 pound pitbull and is the most loveable girl. My sons curl up with her in a chair or couch and watch tv together. She loves it.

I do hope you share some. I've been taking creature pictures for close to thirty years now. Not many, but I do have a some good ones. Back when I had my 35mm and it's macro lenses I'd get within an inch of some insects.

I won't report anyone unless they are repeat offenders after they've been warned to be nice. Because like I said I prefer to think they wrote with good intentions. ...»

Bernice, I talk to inanimate objects too. I've done so off and on, but after our grandson helped me find something by calling it's name I realize that it works. Like "okay water bottle where are you hiding now? Please show yourself.... Oh water bottle......" I just wish that worked when looking for our Mollee kitty. She likes hiding in plain sight. Once when our grandson was here and had left an empty toy cube in the middle of the Ladies Parlor she curled up in and sat there peaking out the top, I'm sure, while I walked around and around the house calling her name. Eventually I just happened to look closer and saw her looking at me like "I've been here the whole time, I have no clue why you didn't see me."

I'll be looking forward to them April. I think I have one of a praying mantis that I scanned ages ago. If I do I'll share it. The rest will all be digital so I probably have them on my computer.
