Neutral Elements Fall Mantel

I like to change up my decor a little with the seasons but don't have lots of time to redecorate or storage space for truly seasonal pieces. Here's the way I do it...plus head over to the blog to read the story of DIY-ing our fireplace wall renovation. http://bit.ly/1uEdEZi
I use a lot of items that are neutral in colour but with lots of varied texture...mirror, chalkboard, wood, ceramic, metal. Also here on the fireplace wall I kept the backdrop neutral with texture by using slate tile.
Some decor items can be used in multiple seasons too. I've used this little raffia pear on a white-themed winter mantel before.
Even truly seasonal elements like the FALL banner and pumpkins can be neutral but with texture like burlap and grapevine they fit the scheme and add interest without having to be changed out more than once a season.
A few pops of seasonal colour help to bring the whole look into a new season. A few little pumpkins can be easily stored away when not in use, and a few book with orange covers move from the bookcase to the mantel in place of the blue ones that were there with the summer decor.
All together the look says "fall" without a lot of redecorating and using a few small, seasonal pieces that are easily stored, plus some items collected from around the house.
