Susan S on Jul 25, 2012Hi Kay! Where have you been?? The last post I remember seeing from you, you were giving your husband a much needed break from all the projects!! Has he recuperated yet?? As to your Iris - maybe it's a re-bloomer. It seems like I've heard some talk here on HT about there being some Iris that do bloom more than once.Helpful Reply

Kay R on Jul 25, 2012Hi Susan Well, he's still on a much needed break and is fishing as we speak. Let's see, I've put my order in for a rock walkway to the swing, an irrigation system (I'm so tired of watering) a tiled patio and quite a few others. It's really too hot to do any of this now so I'm giving him a break until fall. Bless him. :) Joyce, I've never heard of a reblooming iris - didn't know there was such a thing. My daughter-in-law gave this to me so I'm not sure what type it is but I sure am loving it.Helpful Reply

Kay R on Jul 25, 2012I'm really doing all of this for his own good - I just think for a man of his age all these "little" jobs give him a reason to get up in the morning. I'm just too good to him sometimes. :) Oh, and I want one of those flower pot people that are so cute.Helpful Reply

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Jul 25, 2012Kay, lavender needs plenty of air flow and careful watering, not too much, not too little. In our area the Lavendula angustifolia seems to thrive a bit better or ones that don't have 'thick' leaves. Give it a slightly alkaline soil. The French lavenders (the ones usually with the really big bloom stalks) will not survive our winters and have to be taken inside.Helpful Reply

Kay R on Jul 25, 2012I've planted them twice already this year but with no luck. I wonder if they don't like the red clay? I've had such good luck with lilies, roses, camellias, etc. but none with the lavender and I just love the smell and would love to have some to survive.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Jul 26, 2012I have had iris in Georgia for years (north Atlanta) and they love clay. But iris usually do not bloom the first year you plant them. Give htem some time. My sister gets more rain on the coast than we do so her lilies and sometimes iris bloom twice! It has never happened to me.!Helpful Reply

Kay R on Jul 26, 2012I'm still trying to get used to this red dirt. We moved here from the southern part of the state where we had rich black sandy soil. The red clay here stains your hands, your clothes and everything else it touches. I miss my black dirt!!Helpful Reply
