Remove carpet from under wall and stud.

There is a dividing wall in my house, and a supporting stud, that the previous owners put over the carpeting. When I moved in I removed all the carpeting but can not get the part between the floor and wall. It is old, disgusting and smells. Any ideas? It is in there extremely tightly.

I bet @Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com would have some great advice for you on that!

If there are nails through the bottom board holding it to the floor, you could try to remove them.to release some of the pressure holding the carpet down. Once the carpet is out, you'll have to put shims or something underneath anyway and renail. There is a flat tool with a sharp hook-like end you might try to dig it out, too. .
  • The first thing I am thinking Is the wall was constructed without any permits as this would never be allowed. You will need to remove one finished side up about two feet enough to allow you to pull nails as Marion stated, then using a pry bar, a large one, put pressure up on the bottom of the plate to release the carpet from the weight of the wall. Do this in small areas at a time until the carpet has been released. Flood the space with some bleach to help remove any odors that may still be present and then refasten the plate to the floor. This will not be an easy task. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thank you for advice. I'm sure there was no permits involved. Since buying this house two years ago, many of these type situations have occurred😕. I have a pry bar type tool that might help... I appreciate the help! Thanks so much, I will let you know.
