A long shot photo showing both rooms would help Tris.

Can't see the green. Like the rug and the warmth of the floor. You used one of the rug colours in your pic matting. Why not pull one of the greens (or shade thereof) from the rug for the walls for contrast with cabs. (Black will stand out with any colour.) Then use rust/browns (or shades thereof) for accents like you did with your pic matting..

A light dove gray is one of the most popular "whites". If you like a warmer feel, go with something like Behr's "Baked Scone". I LOVE Ralph Lauren's "Cottonwood" but it is too dark for my house. Looks great in the kitchen with all the white, but in the connecting den it turned brown...we face south and have no sun coming in there...tall trees!

Honestly I feel you could use any color you like because with white cabinets and black countertop, any color will work. So the only real question is what color is it? ;-) Then use that same color from kitchen through to the dining area (because they open to each other) and that's all ya need :-) Pick accessories that'll work in both rooms too. There's no right or wrong color...just pick one you love and use it in both rooms. Of course, then post a new pic :-)
