DIY Honey Jars for a Sweet New Year

Individual serving DIY honey jars add to the decor of a Rosh Hashanah table, while making it easier to double dip your apples...
This is a quick little post for those who are setting a Rosh Hashanah holiday table. I’ll be back with the full table setting after I get my fresh flowers and challah, but for now I wanted to share my personal honey jars, which will be served at each place setting to be used for dipping with apple slices.


First, a brief explanation for those not familiar with the customs of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. One of the most emblematic images of the holiday is the pairing of apples and honey, which figure prominently in my table setting this year. The custom celebrates the autumn harvest, while utilizing honey to represent the sweetness of a good year to come.


For these individualized honey servings, I bought tiny jars at Michael’s to decant the honey into. I tied each with a ribbon to match the apples and then created the labels on my computer. Shanah Tovah is the common greeting that wishes the recipient a good year and 5775 is the upcoming year according to the Jewish calendar.


So, Shanah Tovah to all, whenever you celebrate your New Year!!
