My Living Room Reveal

This is my finished living room. It is one big DIY fest! Everything from refinished the hardwoods myself, to painting everything from the ceiling to the door to adding faux trim on the wood paneling. Even the couch and pillows were recovered.

The "G" on the wall stands for "Girl, you GO!" I love the way you've weighted the room with touches of black, and coordinated the dark grey in the adjacent room. You've been very busy with recovering, refinishing and painting. Very well done!

Very pretty while at the same time looks very inviting....so many formally decorated rooms have a "please do not touch" feeling. Love this!

    A+. The room is delightful.

Everything is tied in together to form a beautiful picture.

It looks like you put a satin paint on the ceiling.

I sure like the ceiling. Creatively Living and Pease Painting, can you talk about paint choice for ceilings?

My wood floors are over 100yrs old and everyone keeps telling me to cover them up with that fake wood flooring but I want to sand them down and refinish them, you just made up my mind. I also need to redue the whole L.R. and I'd like to do it in that color but I have to do my kitchen too and want it done in red and black (my table is black marble, electronics crome and black) with the walls a brushed look in a lt adobe color. I don't know what color to paint the cuboards, I thought maybe a brick look floor. What are anyones thoughts on that?

Lori, I would not ordinarily pick a sheen for a ceiling but I like the few we have done. In one old plaster house, we did all the ceilings in eggshell sheen and you could see every wave in the surface. The glow looked nice and also showed off the handmade plaster look.

For a dead flat ceiling paint that will show no irregularities in the ceiling and show no future touch up marks, try Bennie Moore's Waterbourne Ceiling Paint. It's a beautiful finish.

    Best, Charles

Mary, you might want to post you question separately so more people can see it. Things tend to get lost in the shuffle when they're mixed in with something else.

Wow, you did a great job on everything. You should be very proud of all the creativity you put into this room. It is very warm and inviting.

Mary, I think you should refinish the hardwoods too! Hardwood flooring is my absolute favorite, and the old hardwood flooring adds so much character in my opinion! I purposely left many of the "ding marks" in mine, and didn't sand them completely flat. The are slightly higher in the middle of every board.

For the cupboards, I would do a nice warm creamy white. I use Berkshire White from Colorplace. ...»

If you have Adobe (I'm assuming a warm brown) brushed walls, and white and black, the cream would brighten the room and keep it from being too dark, while continuing to add warmth! Sounds like a wonderful space! See if you can continue the hardwood throughout the kitchen, otherwise you could go with a brown or brown-ish black tile? The nice thing about that sort of tile is that it hides dirt easily and the grout won't look warn over time.
