How to prep floors for painting them?

What to use to clean floors for painting? Patio has some paint on it now do I need some special cleaner?

    Elizabeth, what kind of floors and what they have been through is important to know before knowing how to proceed.

    If you can be more specific about the details and post a photo it would be easier to tell what to do.

    The floor is concrete they are painted it's a flat paint old and faded not peeling. That's all I can tell you

    Elizabeth, if the floor is not shiny then you are ready to clean and paint.

    I like to use the liquid 'TSP Substitute' to clean with.

    Just thoroughly rinse.

    Then you are ready for two coats of water based porch and floor paint from your local paint store!
