Flooring Painting

Painted Wood Floor

I have hated my parquet floor since we moved into this home, and finally decided to take matters into my own hands. I started by sanding the entire surface. Then I painted the entire floor with 2 coats of white paint, sanding in between coats. Be sure to let the paint dry between coats. Next, I painted the entire floor with a cream colored paint and let it dry. Finally, I handpainted the squares...each square is 4 of the little parquet squares together. After all of the paint dried, I sanded the entire floor for a worn, cottagy look. Find the entire tutorial at http://www.mom4real.com/2012/07/painted-wood...

I like how it turned out, but would like to know how long the finish will last- I may have opted for dye or stain myself

I have been wanting to take up the carpet in my mobile home and paint the floors for years! The carpet is horrible, have many pets! Im gonna try it. worse that could happen...? Better than the dirty carpet is what I think! Thanks for you input! Wandering if you think porch paint would be more durable. Anyone have any idea?

the floor looks awesome. TO WENDY AND JANET E., I replaced the carpet and tile in my new mobile home. The previous owner had cat pee everywhere. Because the floor is particle board it swelled and I had to have a guy come out and try to level it. Lots of work later I couldn't have wood floors because of the uneven floor. Good luck to you.

I am assuming that you put several coats marine strength polyurethane on top to protect the paint

When we moved into this house 6 yrs ago we had that horrible parquet flooring in the foyers. HATED IT! Pulled it up last year and got tile. I then noticed every house that had an open house had it in it. What's up with that? Never seen it before this house. PUKE! lol BTW, you did a great job, wish I would have thought of that!

Thank you so much for all of your compliment...I am overwhelmed! It really wasn't very hard. The hardest part was waiting for paint to dry in between coats. The difference is crazy, it almost feels like a room now instead of an entry way!

Beautiful! I am building a small house in a rural area and have never thought carpeting fit in the country but can not afford real wood floors. I am thinking high grade plywood and paint. You have just inspired me!

Brenda....Let me tell you what my mother in law did which I was so so so impressed with...

they put down plywood...used a router and carved lines which looked like wide pine floor planking when she finished... then sanded.....stained and poly'd it and OMG! you would not believe how beautiful these floors came out! I thought they were real pine planks..seriously! when she told me what they did my jaw dropped.

this is certainly something to consider.

Looks wonderful! I painted some wooden floors in the bedrooms. I painted them white and then painted some flowers on them. Maybe I should post them? Thanks for the inspiration!!
