Covering a large mirror

Question

How could I cover a very large living room mirror? 4'x7' It is my only large wall in the living room that i can decorate and it is quite ugly. I am renting so I cannot remove it and it is glued on- many thanks

Have u thought of covering it in a fabric u like using the fabric softener trick, or wallpaper. You could even hang curtain panels on each side and fill the center with a large wreath or a painting u like

I have actually painted on mirror and it washed right off you could command hook on a mirror you like or whatever. Maybe use those removable yellow disc things. But soap, water. I used Windex and scraper to remove paint. Or section off areas with paint and attach pictures with heavy duty command hooks.

If your landlord allows you to put holes in the walls for hanging things, I would buy some 1x2's or something, cut them into a frame around the mirror, add a few vertically in front of the mirror (fastened to the top and bottom strips with screws), then hang a piece of plywood cut in a size large enough to cover everything. You can cover the edges with more wood if you'd like. Basically, you're building a box around and over the mirror. Once the box is up, you can decorate it however you want...just be careful not to use any screws or nails so long they would penetrate past the open area between the plywood and 1x2 strips and into the mirror.

Make a feature of it. String some fairy lights and you will get twice the effect when the lights are switched on due to the reflection. Apply some opaque film to it (uses shampoo and water in a squirty bottle to stick the film) if you don't like the mirror reflecting the room back at you. Film can be bought from hardware store, is easy to apply and best of all it is cheap.

You could use it to display framed art work or photos - hang them on the mirror with heavy duty double faced tape. You could also buy or make a painting or tapestry that is slightly smaller & adhere it to the center of the mirror. The mirror appears to be made up of square tiles - apply a repeatative pattern that pleases you in each square.

Cover foam board with material and then adhere it with Velcro command strips. Or you could also just velcro framed pictures on the mirror. The Velcro Command strips will hold heavy objects. Daughter used some to hold an old Kitchen cabinet door on a wall.

That is pretty ugly and huge! Have you asked the landlord if he wants it back? Or maybe another tenant did that and he would love it gone. Looks like stick-on mirror tiles.

Wall Tapestry,or Curtains but not just curtains, you could do a window treatment on it with layered curtains, the light or luminescence that comes through the sheers will hint at outdoors and still allow additional though defused light. There is also the Window cling Stained glass look or, clouded glass look, completely removable.

Maybe hang smaller mirrors inside the larger mirror.  I have also seen the frames repurposed with a coolstone texture that will make it look more stylish.

You could find a beautiful (washable) fabric, dip it in starch...or use watered down Elmer's... place it over the glass and trim it to size with a razor. It comes off easily and changes out just as quickly when you want a different look.

How about putting a garage type of sliding wall which could be taken down if necessary for next tenants you could hang pics or light shelving or sandblast stencil of some type on mirror  I have a large mirror which I love in my living room and have bought a stained glass window to place in centre it is clear glass so also reflects

Find a fabric you like with a light background. Cut to fit mirror. Starch it and put it up with hot glue. Then use scrap booking stuff to put pictures up. Continue print on panels of door in background. Make valance for kitchen window of same print. Trim living room curtains with same print. This will tie the rooms together. Most of all have fun! Make a grid with openings that fit various pictures that you have and attach it to the mirror with hot glue. Allow the mirror to she through in a couple of places.

Pretend that it is not there and create a faux fireplace. Paint the bottom have or three quarter of bottom same color as the wall, place a shelf or fireplace mantle where the paints starts. Place basket or piles of wood in the hearth area.
