My poor tree!

The power company sent "Arborists" (and I use the term quite loosely) out to trim tree limbs back from power lines. I am SO upset at what my poor tree looks like now! This is what we came home from work to yesterday. Not only was the yard a MESS, because they didnt clean up, but look at my poor tree! I know I have a lot of trees, and some may say, big deal, but this tree is "smack dab" in the front yard, and is now a HUGE eye sore! AND our yard is the only yard that didn't get cleaned up....??? Their trucks were parked on the side of the road up the street because they are not done, so honey went and got their number, (they had three phone numbers, 2 of which were disconnected!) and left a message.....what can we do??? I was planning an outdoor birthday party this Saturday for my son, (he's 19, not a child's party, but adults, grilling, but still!) now we have this mess in the yard to clean up before then!!! UGH! I am soooo upset over this!

I feel your pain, Angela. I think you're just going to have to start making calls and, if you have to, make yourself a pest until you get someone out there to clean up.

Every power company and county contracts with tree trimmers to cut limbs well away from their power lines for the lowest possible price. They don't observe even the most basic of tree trimming rules. You can bank on these Hackers appearing just before STORM season, every year. In our case (all buried services), the county sends the Hackers out to secure a 15' overhead clearance for garbage trucks and any other tall vehicles. You can bet every time our arborists are here to care for our ...»
trees, I have them totally clean up our live oak that overhangs the street! I never want the county's butchers to touch my trees!!

If their trucks are still around (down the street), then you should be able to get them to return for clean up fairly easily. Just a timely call, and they should return. After butchering your tree, leaving the debris is just salt in the wound!

Honey is pretty ticked off about it too...they dropped limbs on his truck, that was parked underneath that big tree, he's on his way home from work now...I had to work from home today so I could be here to make sure they come back to clean up. They are back on my street right now working. As I rolled my garbage can out to the road one of the men met me and said they would come get the limbs today....I asked, "what about my lawn mower you pushed out and left in the rain??" (honey had left ...»
it pushed under his tailgate b/c he said he needed to do something to it after using it Sunday, no idea what....they said, ohhhh...forgot about that....ugh...its a crank start Toro....nice! Honey has worked with trees, plants, pretty much all his adult career, and he is ticked at the job these guys have done. he's head groundskeeper at a local University and just went on and on about if they had contracted people to do work like this at the college...so on and so on lol. So now I'm worried about him going off hot-headed lol...Lordy-mercy!! He's wanting their Arborist # and everything lol

What a nightmare! Sounds like you need to contact the power company, not just the butchers, since they're the ones who hired the geniuses!

Take plenty of photos! When we had a situation like this, they kept cutting off limbs until the tree was one sided and leaning toward my house. I called Georgia Power and told them that they had damaged the tree so badly that the first big wind would bring it down on my house. GA Power inspector came out and saw what they had done and they took down the tree for us...of course this was years ago. All you can do is to clear all trees out under the power lines....we did! No trees look ...»
better than trees with holes cut thorugh them or with one side missing!

Oh we did SheilaG! They are also supposed to come look at the mess today as well...and BeckyH, we confirmed the "15 foot rule", but they cut back about 30'...even cut DOWN a couple of small trees, when i say small, I mean maybe 3 inch caliper on the right side of the drive coming in.....but honey did good, talking to the tree cutting supervisor....he said the limb shredding machine was giving them fits yesterday...but he's getting them up here to clean it up...apologized profusely, said he wished he'd known they'd left this mess...

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about what happened and I don't blame you for being upset. I agree about taking lots of pictures and to let them know what happened. Regardless, Happy Birthday to your son and I hope he has a good Birthday despite the mess. Hope things work out. Will keep you in my prayers. :)

I did take a LOT of pictures...first thing I did when I got home yesterday! Update....they "cleaned up"....or their version of it....I will be doing a lot of raking this afternoon/evening, but I guess I can deal with that. I am still upset with the way that one tree looks now. It was such a nice looking tree before they got ahold of it.... :( now, it just looks sad....we are still going to complain to the power company about the way the tree cutting company handled the ENTIRE ...»
situation. I work in the customer service field myself, and at the very least in my opinion, they could have called me, through the power company if they had to, and let me know they were coming back today to finish cleaning up. but my son was here, they could have told him, or left a note, SOMETHING.....instead, they let us come home to a nightmare!

I can imagine you have. I don't blame you for being upset - I would be too. I know how you feel as I have some favorite shrubbery near my bedroom window. I would be devastated if someone cut too much off like that. Especially when there is no need to (if there is no danger to others or the tree itself.) I hope that the Power Company is able to help with the situation. Yes, I agree - you would think that they'd be keeping you informed through the whole process.

I'm sorry you've had to deal with this Angela. Like Jeannette, my Mom and later my hubby and I had a company hired by the power company to cut back trees destroy a tree by cutting back too much. We each called the power company and the trees were cut completely down since the arborist they hired said the tree wasn't pruned properly.
