denim gardeninig pouch made from old jeans

I took an old pair of jeans and cut off all but the backside with the pockets. I left the belt loops so I could clip my keys etc to them with a caribiner. I then took some of the material from one of the legs to make a large pocket that covers the two smaller pockets...this way I could keep my camera and other small items away from dirt, debris, and gardening tools which normally gets into a gardening pouch. I didn't bother sewing the outer edge and bottom of the pouch because the 'hippie' in me thought it would look nice if it starts to fray :)

nice Sharron! the only thing I've ever done with bibs is cut them down to bib shorts...very creative thinking!

@Kathleen.....thank you! you can also wear it backwards if you don't want it in the front while working, or to the side :) I think having the small pockets within the larger pockets is a huge bonus for keeping little things so they don't get swallowed up being mixed up with the larger ...»

things. have I seen any of your work? I've dabbled in Mosaics for a while and I think that's where my true passion is. I made a lamp and was hooked from the first piece. This was a few years ago and never thought of taking a picture :S. since then I've done mosaic stepping stones but it hardly compares to my lamp and besides that's a whole different animal. Now you have me thinking about doing another piece...no kidding!

My daughter came over to visit today and I showed her. She fell in love with it and so you know what I did! hehehe put it on her and said "there, it's yours" :) she's really pretty excited about it and said she was going to wear it around the house when cleaning or painting :) Now I can make a larger one for myself because as you can pretty well guess....(and SUSAN, this goes out to you).....I used an old pair of jeans that were getting pretty tight and well ...need I say more? hehehe ...»
yeah, too snug for my taste...the next pair I'll make from an old pair of my husbands jeans :)

I just had an idea....I can probably find loads of old jeans at yard sales for little or nothing! I'd make these by the dozens and sell them :)

And they will be called...............wait for it....

    'SMARTY PANTS' !

I did something similar with my daughter's favorite pair of jeans when she out grew them by making a pillow from the legs and a case from the top that she stored things like teeth for the tooth fairy or her little teddy bear. That was 2 years ago. She cried when she couldn't wear them anymore and I had to patch a couple of holes but she still sleeps with that pillow!

@ Kamikazi P Awwww that's the sweetest THING... Years ago I cut the legs off my oldests jeans and made them shorts...I put the legs in a bin of fabric and forgot about them...Last Year i was making a "cowboy" quilt for my grandson's first Birthday...and I made the back with Bandannas and needed denium, so into my bin I went and came out with his daddy's jeans legs...that was a cute little quilt...

Marg I absolutely love this! My hubby and I could both use one of these when working on projects around the house. Actually they'd be great for just about any project that you need "tools" to do. House cleaning, sewing, woodworking...etc.

Sharron, yours are neat too! Again those could be used for more than just working on a potters wheel. Painting, gardening if you don't like getting the knees of your pants dirty. Heck even a Mom ...»

would could save her pants from wearing out by wearing those when her children are little. I used to wear out the left leg of every pair of pants I had when our children were little.

    Kamikazi, too cute!

What a wonderful idea, I love this. Think I'm going down to the thrift store to pick up some jeans (mine are worn in too perfectly to cut up just yet) can't wait to make one of my own!

my local hospital thrift runs a "stuff your bag" ( lrg paper grocery sack ) for 7 dollars about once a month... you can stuff as many clothes in it as will fit. I have seen some people spend an enormous effort rolling and stuffing their bags to get as big a bang for their buck as possible :) You could sell them on Etsy , market them to crafters/artists ;)

Oh Marg, this would make a great garage sale apron too! You could put ones in one pocket and the fives in the other and measuring tapes and other necessary items you might need. Even snacks!

OH!!! (Light bulb moment here) You should get a stencil and write 'HOMETALK' across the apron. However, guess you better check w/Miriam first - might be some trademark infringement or something. Wouldn't want you in violation and get put in jail!!

Well Marg, you could offer them plain and some w/a little bit of fancy decoration of some sort. Actually, you could stencil some cute little gardening shouvels or little flowers, buckets - anything gardening related.
