Keeping Your Home Flu-Free

As we get closer to yet another flu and cold season, it is important to keep your home clean and healthy. The biggest factor in maintaining a clean home is diligence, now more than ever. These tips will help you and your family stay healthy throughout this season:
1. Wash your hands with regular soap and warm water for 20 seconds. The FDA has recently cracked down on antibacterial soap manufacturers, believing that the risks of long term use of antibacterial soap is possibly greater than the benefit. Using antibacterial soaps does not reduce your risk of getting sick or passing germs along to others, according to the FDA.
2. Cough into your elbow. According to the CDC, it is best to cough or sneeze into a tissue, but when that is not available, cough into your elbow, not your hands. This will help prevent the spread of germs.
3. Be diligent about wiping the surfaces in your home, and increase the frequency. Germs are rampant and can easily be removed with Red Juice and a cleaning cloth. Spray down surfaces like counter tops and tables, and wipe down surfaces like remote controls, phones, arm chairs, door knobs, keyboards, and other frequently touched items in your home. This is enough to get rid of the germs. The use of harsh chemicals is not necessary, as they are frequently misused anyway, creating super-germs.

4. Wash out trash cans. Used tissues and other such contaminated items are thrown into trash cans, so when you empty them out, give them a good washing.
