Wow, that looks awesome! Congrats on the hard work. I almost really like the rustic look. I guess it depends on where it is going. I always like neutral colors. Like ocean tones.

I think stain it and bring out the knots and texture of the wood. I love to stain pine walnut because it just pops those knots and other beauty marks right out.

Depending on where u r putting it they have a beautiful grayish/blue stain that allows the wood texture to show through

Just Tung Oil. It would enhance the beauty of the grain and darken it just a bit.

Either the tung oil, as Becky said, or if you need more "protection", clear urethane/similar. Natural wood is so beautiful, it's a shame to hide it.

One option is to take a color from something already in the room. Say you have a rug with multiple colors, pick one of those. Or if you have yellow or blue walls, pick a contrasting or complementary color. (Use a color wheel if you need to)

I would put chicken wire instead of glass in the door. I also paint it a barn red.

I prefer the look of wood so much but if you really want to paint it ,that's actually depending when you need or want to put it & the colours in the room or space you'll put it in .

Rustoleum now makes a stain in several very beautiful colors. I recently purchased (at Lowes) one colored Cabernet. It is beautiful. I used it on some old teak wood outdoor furniture. The other colors are very beautiful. Your color will depend on where you plan on using. Since mine is outside I spar varnished it with three coats and sanded in between each. Would love to see your ur final choice.

Wow! The graining in the wood is beautiful. I definitely wouldn't paint it. All I think it needs is a coat of Deft satin finish. Too pretty to cover up with paint. My late husband and I restored and built custom furniture for over 30 years so I have a fair amount of appreciation for wood in its natural beauty.

The first vision I had was a deep barn red stain / wash with chicken wire but my style of Decor is primitive so that is where my mind goes! Where you looking for a prim look or a more modern finish?

I definitely wouldn't varnish it as, unless it is very matt, it will make it shiny and spoil the rustic look of the wood. A coloured stain or wax would look good but I love the weathered look Adan Sagahon suggested, I find using any white paint on untreated wood, then sanding it back and staining it works well. Good luck with whatever you decide :-)

Why would you ruin good wood with paint... a light stain maybe then poly... but not paint...

I love oak. So I would stain it oak. But it is the best little shelf cabinet I have seen. Well done! I have some pallets that need a recycle.

I personally like painted wood that has been "antiqued", especially with pallet pieces. A pop of color is fun. The first color that occurred to me was blue/green color, lighter in tone.

This one I just used the wood how was cut on small pallets I did not cut nothing I did two squares one for the bottom one for the top and then just nail it the boards

with the first picture, if you are adding glass to the door, I would either stain or polyurethane it to make it more of a rich texture than just paint.. now with the chicken wire front, you could beat it with chains to give it a weathered aged look & feel then lightly sand and paint it with milky light stains from gray to light green etc... to keep the aged appeal . Great work on the build and style,, These would sell great on roadside or flea market . A lot of people like this style but don't have the "Talent" (which you do) to achieve this outcome and would buy it in a heartbeat... Thanks for sharing it.. also you could expand on the idea to make a wall shelf to match it .. the possibilities are ENDLESS!!

This is a primitive piece. The piece of wood across the top and the left facia board are to amiss to go to all the sanding you'd have to do for a very refined piece. I'd chalk paint in in at least 3 vey sedate colors and dark wax it.

@ your talent is very evident in this piece. Looks like it took a lot of thought and planning. Regardless of painting or staining, you could add interest by stenciling on the sides and top piece at the front. Would love to see what you end up doing in the end. Thanks for posting.

I think a dusty blue milk paint with would look nice if your home is country, otherwise just a coat of stain to match the other wood in your home.
