Faux tin paintable wall paper mistake or not

I'm putting up paintable wallpaper that looks like faux tin panels. I spray painted it silver and dry brushed black over the top of the raised design. I did it this way because I didn't want the paint to run or settle in the creases. I also didn't want to be hunched over under the cabinets trying to do all this detailed painting. Now I'm ready to put it on the wall and I'm reading that everyone else installed the paper then, painted it. Ooopppps. Can I just put wallpaper paste on the wall and place the paper? Do I need to soak the paper in water like I would regular untainted wallpaper? Help, anyone?

I know @The Weathered Door and @Susan Myers both posted previously using this- maybe they can help?
