Anyone have any ideas on how to fix up a claw foot tub?

I have a claw foot tub that is chipping paint in the bottom and the outside is an ugly cream color with grapes on it. I want it to be all white and no chipping paint inside. Is there an easy way to strip that paint out without toxic fumes?

This may be one of those time when a pro should be brought in...I have used Miracle Method for some tub re-finishing...they run franchises all over the country. Not the cheapest option but better than winging it or replacement. http://www.miraclemethod.com/

First choice should definitely a pro refinisher...however that can be costly and a huge pain in the rear trying to get the tub out if they can't refinish in place. Rustoleum makes a tub refinishing kit that may be a good DIY solution. As for the outside of the tub, regular paint will do!

Thank you for the comments. I think I will try it on my own and look for the tub refinishing kit at the store. I will try to post pics when I get it done.

While I agree with the first two posters on using a pro. If you do go it alone. Be sure that you get the tub really clean. That is the most important thing when using these kits. Also once it is painted it will scratch real easy as its not as hard as the original finish which is to be expected. So keep the tub clean often and do not let to much soil build up where you will need a stronger abrasive type of cleaner to get it clean. It will simply scratch.
