A Chicken Coop Cabinet Restored.

My Neighbor down the street came to me and asked me if I would like a project to do for a 90 Year Old Lady she knew... She said that she wanted it restored cause it was something that meant a lot to her... So Me being Me said Yes to this project even before I saw what it looked like, cause I just love the challenges and love to bring the old back to new... take a look at what I did to transform this Cabinet that was at rest in her Chicken Coop for over 50 years here at my blog page: http://tcdesigns1968.blogspot.com/2012_08_01...

Tania you've done an incredible job on this piece. Not to rain on anybody's parade - and I know you're going w/what the owner said (Like who's gonna argue or correct a 90 yr. old Lady, right?) but I'm pretty sure this ain't no chicken coop. First, w/glass and the shelving - but if she wants to call it a coop then who are we to argue!! It looks fantastic and I think this became a labor of love!!

It does resemble a pie safe....but then again....maybe they put chickens in there when she was a girl! People do funny things with furniture! What would my Granny say about taking a dresser and chopping a hole int he top to put a sink in there! I can only imagine! LOL

Regardless...it was a nice thing and you did a great job!

LOL Susan.♥. Chuckle! Chuckle! Labor of Love Yes Yes Chicken Coop No No... The only reason I named it this was because That is what the guy told me when he dropped it off to me... he said that the Cabinet lay to rest in her chicken coop for over 50 years... I'm sure it used to hang in her house at one time but some how made it into the Chicken Coop and that is where it has been since now... So You see Susan I would love to know the story behind how something so beautiful ended up out ...»
side in the chicken coop but I dare not ask a 90 year old woman I'm sure she has a ton of stories to tell♥ U know I may end up having nightmares tonight about chickens now thanks LMAO! and @ Lorraine you may be right.. maybe she did put her chickens in it LOL! people around here do strange things believe me when I say I've seen it all LOL!... Cheers and thanks =)♥

WHEW!! Sure am glad you cleared that up!! ;~) Oh, and thre worm holes that are in the top of the cabinet were in all liklihood in the wood when it was originally cut and is a natural marking. Yes it does add character and when I was working w/furniture, pieces that had the natural worm holes were highly prized by our clientele!! Go figure!! I'd love to know what the lady's reaction was when she saw the renovated piece!!

Thanks Becky and Tanya you are so sweet and Susan I had no Idea about the worm thingy ..This site definitely provides you with some great trivia ;) and I wish I had been there for the reaction on her face too when she saw the renovated piece... But Unfortunately I never got to meet her cause her Son and Grandson came and picked it up for her and the son was the one that dropped it off to me... So No I never got to meet this lady but the son did call me later that day and told me that she ...»
absolutely loved it and wanted him to install it on her wall that day so she could put all of her treasures in it♥

Tania, what a wonderful job and lovely task you did for someone! This is what is meant by "casting your bread upon the waters!" These acts of kindness are what brings good karma. No matter what a person's faith, feeding the soul is a necessity! Keep this kind, giving spirit always!
