I love hawks but my chickens don't :) My daughter has 3 that glide over her house and it's awsome sitting with her having coffee and watching them! Thanks Trish :)

I love hawks. When I lived in the UK we had Barn Owls nesting near by and to watch them flying in the early morning light was just magical. Thanks for sharing Trish :)

We live just north of I-285 in Atlanta and we still have so many wild animals. I would love to have a couple of hawks to keep down some of the more pesty types. I know they won't scare away deer but I sure wish I knew how toscare them away! They trample down and eat my flowers. It is embarassing! They eat the red and other dark colored flowers, leaving the white ones. It makes for an awful looking yard!

I carry my camera everywhere too Trish. I recently got a small one so it would fit better in my purse. I'm not one to carry a large purse because of a neck (just muscle but still hurts terribly) injury.

This is not an advertisement, but just a tip! For those who like to carry everything in their purse they might need...like the tape measurer I have in my purse...you might want to look into getting an "Ameribag" (google it). I have the large black leather one and mine weighs almost 5 lbs, but when it goes on my shoulder, I almost do not know it is there. I took it to a shoe repair shop and had him take the folds out of the strap where it could be adjusted so as to make the strap longer ...»
so I could sling it across my chest when shopping. In addition to all my regular stuff, I have even carried a book and a pair of shoes in mine at the same time.

awesome! a few summers ago i was standing by sun room to collect seeds from blazing star flowers and i noticed a flying shadow over my head thinking it was a dove. i looked up and saw red tail hawk sitting on edge of the sun room. i was shocked to see it so close above me like 2 feet! it's head turned around to look down and saw me. i could see it jumping like it was surprised to see me there and it flew away right away. i was like awesome but sure glad it did not land on my shoulder ...»
because of it's very sharp talons that could pierce my skin. too bad i did not have my camera to take that pix. naturally, i never forget this encounter. haha

Thanks Jeanette. I'll have to remember to check them out next time I'm in Omaha. There's six stores that carry them one not far from where we live. I used to only wear purses with long straps so I could place the strap across my chest, but it became harder to find one with the right pockets to suit my needs. I've been saying for years I was going to get into the purse designing business. Never have though.

Now that's pretty darned cool to have a hawk that like's your company!! Aren't you just special??? Actually, though, if you go by a pet store and get a box of meal worms she'd probably love you even more. We were able to entice our bluebirds to come to our deck railing and eventually on the deck to retrieve worms out of a plastic lid!!!

Worms are much better than what I was thinking Susan. Mice! Not that I want to touch worms either.

We, actually I was the "lucky" one, found two dried up mice in large bottles when cleaning out our garage Saturday. They each climbed in different bottles and couldn't get out. My hubby said we found a new mouse trap. Um, not really. I wouldn't do that to them on purpose even if I hate the critters after what they did in our basement the first year we lived here and my hubby didn't believe ...»

we had mice in the basement until I found one in the kitchen and let out a blood curdling scream. I mean... new construction surrounded by corn fields? Did he really think we'd get by without mice? Our precious Max cat, though a awesome hunter, never touched the three mice that got inside our last home and by now was fifteen years old. I figured he thought they were pets like the geckos the kids had for awhile. He loved watching them (scared the heck out of the geckos) but he never tried to harm them.

Trish, I bet you don't have any mice around your home thanks to these hawks!

A hawk w/a sense of humor!! Scaring the neighbors cat is probably how she gets her jollies!!

Even as much as I love cats I had to laugh at the visual I got of the hawk smiling when it scares the cat.

Oh you lucky duck you!!! I still say you should get them some meal worms - just as a special treat once in a while! An occasional morsel won't take away their natural predatory nature!!

Grape jelly on meal worms - YUMMO!! So you have to set up a cam corder. Get your boyfriend to build a ledge or shelf and attach it to the fence where Edward like to land and put the meal worms in there. The ledge is so they won't crawl off of it!! When we feed our blue birds we had to put them in a lid w/a lip but still had to keep an eye on them. Those things are pretty good escape artists!!
