What to do with all those baby/school pictures.

When a friend was redoing an older home, he gave us a few exterior moldings from above his windows. I painted, distressed and stenciled three of them and used them to make a display of our children's photos. I used inexpensive frames but painted them all alike, using solid, plain ones for our son and more detailed ones for our daughter. The baby pictures start at the bottom of the stairs and they go up to their high school pictures at the top. The stairs lead up to their rooms. They are grown now and our son has moved away. He enjoyed showing this to his fiance the first time she visited. I think both kids like showing their gallery of childhood photos. They also like to point and laugh at how goofy they think the other one looks.

I'm so glad you posted this. I had a similar plan in mind for my entry hall and staircase. The question is always "what am I going to do with that wall. My wall will have wainscoting like the dining room has. I wasn't certain I what I wanted to do. Then I remember some older family pictures we have. We have my husbands wedding pictures, including one of them together and one of each of them separately. We also have a picture of his grandfather with full beard and its in a beautiful ...»
antique bowed glass frame. I have a picture of my paternal grandmother's family all standing beside the house in usual dress that was probably made in the late 1800's. To keep with the time frame we have pictures of the bride and groom from three other family weddings around the time of my husbands parents married. Looks like 1915 or 1920's, somewhere in that time frame. You got me motivated to go ahead with the project.

    Thanks

Great idea Donna. My Mom did this with the photos of my (4) sisters and me when we were growing up.... we all jokingly referred to it as the " Horror Gallery" lol

Thank you, Connie. Sounds like you have some very priceless old ones. I did an arrangement of old family photos in our dining room. We too have wainscoting in there. The reason I put them in the dining room is because people see them there. I had thought about the stairs but really only our kids went up and down the stairs. When we have company and are in the dining room, those pictures become a topic of discussion and since I have some that date back to the late 1800's, they are ...»
kind of interesting. This may sound strange but I had a great-grandmother who collected dishes and loved to entertain. I never knew her but have a picture of her in the grouping. When I'm getting the table set for company and wondering if everything looks okay, I look up at her and say, "okay, what do you think, would you approve?" Sort of like they are watching over you. You can see a little of the grouping behind my profile picture. Be sure you let us see your wall of history! Thanks.

    Hi Donna,

It sounds like your Dining Room is perfect for the ancestors. I wish I had more from my family but I don't think they took many photos on the farms. My stairway is in the entry hall so it gets maximum exposure to everyone who visits. First I have to get the downstairs painted then I can decide how to mat the larger photos of my husbands parents. The wedding pictures are priceless. All ...»

the brides are wearing shorter dresses (below the knees) and long train-like veils as was popular in the 1920's. Should be quite a project.

Sadly, Sharon B, those pics are all down now because we are moving and as they tell us on HGTV on House Hunters and all those shows, take down the personal pics when showing your home. Haven't taken them down in the dining room yet though.

Sharon B I know they enjoy having their music room. Who is the drummer in the family? My son plays drums. Everything is so neat and nice. Oh and I love the black and white pictures above the instruments. I like all the colors.
