    There are periods in ants' lives when they are winged. I've never heard of them damaging plants, but if they are carpenter ants you might have reason for concern.

    Sounds like termites. I would catch a few and put them in a jar, call one of the extermination companies that come and do free inspections and estimates just to be sure of what you are dealing with. I know from experience that termites are winged when they go through the swarming stage. sorry to say they can be terribly destructive and can do some major damage to your home.

    I agree, have a pest company look at them, in case they're termites.
