How to remove a built in oven, microwave, and vent hood unit.

We have an OKeefe and Merritt all in one unit from the 80's. It needs to go but we can't even get it to budge away from the wall. Does anyone know the secret?

  • There should be screws around the inside edge where the door closes to. Most likely four one in each corner. Depending if there is a gasket on the oven itself there could be screws under it. It should be pretty simple. Just be sure you have help when pulling it out as it can be a bit heavy and lopsided in weight. If you do not see the screws, look for small button shaped caps, some have these covering over the screw heads If that is the case, a small screwdriver and a tap with a hammer on them will pop the caps off reveling the screws.

I need a clarification about a response There is only a gasket around the front opening of the oven door on the bottom. There is nothing for it to be attached to other than the cabinet and its not attached at the front. We removed the door completely and found nothing. We were thinking maybe up around the vent hood but didn't see anything there. It won't budge. I guess we will have to call a repair man to take out the unit. :( Thank you for your idea!
  • That is a free standing oven with upper microwave. If your not able to move it, It is simply stuck. However if the vent goes to the outside that may be the issue. You may need to remove the front door on the fan part to see if there is access to the duct connection. But everything should come out as one unit.
  • Also look at the top cabinet to see if screws are running down from the cabinet holding things into place. On some older mounts the hood is connected to the cabinet and the oven with micro slips under.
