Does anyone know the name of this plant

Received a start of this plant from family friend many years ago and would love to know the name of it. Both common and proper. Thanks for your input.

    It looks like an aloe plant to me. :)

    I don't think it's an aloe vera plant, though it's similar they don't have three edges as it appears this one does.

    that should be a night blooming cirrus (Ithink that's how its spelled)

    thanks for library I will research there........no definitely not an aloe I have that and know what it is.......i just googled night blooming cereus and that's not my plant. I'm pretty sure it is a succulent and the bloom is starfish shape and smells bad

    I believe you have a fine example of Stapelia gigantea, or starfish plant. Since you've smelled it, you will not be surprised that another common name is carrion plant.

    Even if it smells bad it has a pretty bloom. I love succulents.

    That's a night blooming cereus. If properly pollinated and with the right weather etc. those beautiful giant flowers would become dragon fruit. The plant itself can get absolutely huge and out of control in the right circumstances.
