My Painted Kitchen Makeover!

I Used Left over paint that I had stored away in the Basement to re do this Kitchen... Even the Tile on the Backslash is Paint... Check out How I transformed this Ugly Blue Kitchen that came with the house into something that I can live with for now until I get the kitchen I want in a few years...

I love what you did on a shoestring.. but just make sure you hubs knows that it isn't an acceptable fix. :D Mine would say "Hey, now that it is fixed up, we don't need a new kitchen!" bwa-ha-ha-ha!

Seeing the before pic of your cabinets reminds me of our first apt. in 1977. In the bathroom, I got permission from the landlady to paint the one cabinet door this shade of blue. It matched the tile in the bathroom. (Yuk!) I remember being so happy and actually getting compliments on it! Just think, years ago someone painted your kitchen and stood back and admired the blue! You did a great job with all your transformations and in years to come, no one will ever say, "can you believe ...»
someone painted this white?" White is classic. I love your faux tile too!

Oh it looks so much better Tania. I, like Donna, was brought back to the seventies when I saw the painted doors on your before picture. My Mom painted just the doors on our kitchen in yellow, avocado and off white. It looked awesome at the time. Later Daddy stripped the paint and re-stained them for her. I'm sure I must have a picture of that kitchen somewhere in her photos, but have not scanned but a small fraction of them, if I had it I'd have shared it with you.

Yes Becky, my mom had harvest gold and avocado green in her kitchen and we thought we were styling! In that 1977 apt., we also had blue and green shag carpet! We use to rake it to make it stand up pretty. Can't imagine now.

@ Tania. I thought those cabinets looked like they came from the fifties. That's when my folks house was built. They bought it in the late sixties. I much prefer the metal "Youngstown" style cabinets that were popular in homes built in the fifties. The first home I remember living in had them. Awesome modern kitchen at the time. Though I prefer stained wood I still love the looks of those metal cabinets. ...»

@ Donna. Mom never had any of the harvest gold, she didn't care for that, hers was a more sunny yellow. I'm thinking she even had a few tangerine doors too now that I'm thinking about it more.

Hmmm no.... I will cheer her on tho! ha Her hubs does not like subway tiles. She loves them, it is her kitchen. I dont get it. I run stuff by hubs and if it isnt a big deal, and he doesnt like it, I do it anyway.Big stuff, no, but tile as a back splash, maybe I am wrong, but, move over guy! I dont tell you what to do in your garage! Anyway she just RESPONDED and said she may have to do this as a last resort! She really likes it. She is putting up bead board in the bathroom today without ...»
his input....thinking once he sees her work he will trust her judgement more. huh? Sh e is such a wonderful decorator. I keep encouraging her to take an online course so that when her body finally fails doing house cleaning she will have another skill to fall back on. hasn't yet. Her home is beautifully tastefully decorated! Dont you wonder what these guys ' homes would look like without their wonderfully talented wives?

Bernice H TaniaC One of the great shocks of my married life was discovering that my husband had an opinion on everything I wanted to do in the house. I kept thinking - couldn't he see from my pre-marriage home that I had good taste and didn't I see from his pre-marriage home that he did NOT? LOL

Bernice H and Ellen H I guess i'm fortunate enough to say that Hubby lets me do what ever the heck I want to, as long as I am doing it LOL!..When I met him he lived alone and was a Supervisor at a huge Apartment Complex in Florida, and I have to say when I walked into his place I was Pleasantly surprised at how clean and organized he was... No dirty clothes lying on ...»
the floor no dirty dishes and everything was in its place... WOW!... Mind you he needed a woman's touch though cause it was so bachelor like and BLAH with no Color...HA!.... I think It may have to do with him being Colored Blind so he just lets me color his world now...:) <CHUCKLE>... Bernice tell your Friend Thank you from Me..:) and I really think you should at least try it so that you see how easy it is. and Ellen You are so funny♥
