Keeping oak cabinets natural

How do I clean sticky oak cabinets without ruining them? I love the natural wood but might have to paint to make them look good again.

Murphy's oil soap. But if you decide you do want to paint them wipe down with tsp(at any hardware store).you will dissolve in a bucket of water and a wet rag.wear gloves and make sure kitchen if well ventilated, and eye protection. This is serious cleaning. Then prime and paint. For inspiration,go to Pinterest, look under painted furniture/cabinets.The possibilities are endless. The golden oak especially if the entire kitchen is all oak cabinets does look dated to me

I will try the Murphys for sure. Thank you. This fancy "snake oil guaranteed cleaner" didn't work. Live and learn I guess.

Or,a dark espresso stain would be slightly easier to do and will make them updated too.Ask the hardware store for help.I highly recommend if you decide on stain, to roll it on with a foam roller in one direction only, unless you decide to invest about 100.00 for a decent sprayer, taking the fronts down and spraying them outside making sure it is not a windy day!

You can also use a good grease-cutting detergent like Dawn in water.

I've tried Dawn which is usually my go to grease cutter. I'm still trying everything I can think of.

Use Murphy's to clean, allow it to dry and polish with Old English Walnut polish. It will help preserve the wood.

Last ditch effort to clean cabinets, use a rag soaked in mineral spirits,it will strip your finish but should remove any thing stuck on the finish. You will then need to reapply a protective polyurethane because it will most likely be partially removed from the mineral spirits .
