Painted Brick Fireplace

Fireplaces in general are not efficient. And to top this off, it was UGLY. Plain red brick and a rough hewn log as a mantle. I dry brushed each brick individually. Hubby covered the ...»
fireplace with a sheet of copper then installed a wood burning stove, which is much more energy efficient. We found a beautiful pine mantle, added the corbels. The wood stove puts out lots of warmth in the room and not up the chimney, making both of us very happy

  • Orb Weaver. Beautiful color and watching him weave this web between two trees was fascinating

My Orb Weaver

While walking the dogs at night I found this beautiful spider happily weaving this ornate web just above the walkway

  • This is a side view of the cheese box. I painted the inside grey and the outside turquoise. Using a hot glue gun I attached a double row of shells on the lid, a single row on the bottom and placed larger shells all around the middle
  • A view of the top of the box. This box is now in the guest bedroom which is Beach themed

Decorated Cheese Box

After collecting sea shells, I needed a place to store them. Wanted to save the memories

  • Milk Can & Cow Themed Planter 3

Got Milk???? or better yet, GOT FLOWERS?

Using a milk can replica for my theme, I then painted terra cotta pots to resemble black and white cows. This planter is in the flower garden by the driveway to welcome our guests and family. Thanks to hubby who dug the hole for the rebar, poured the concrete and came up with the milkcan idea. Come to think of it, I really didn't do much except paint and plant. LOL, thats ok, we make a good team

  • A comfy swing to enjoy the flowers. Impatiens in coconut planters along the fence add color
  • A fountain offers soothing sounds to our courtyard. You probably can't see the cute little spitting turtle hiding in the flowerpot beside the fountain, but he's there!
  • A hollow log filled with plants adds a whimsical touch to the arbor

Our courtyard in bloom

We've been working on the courtyard for 5 long years, doing a little as finances allow. This year I think we have finally finished. We will only have to plant a few annuals next year for color

Change

Have you ever finished a project, then looked at it and decided that you really hated it? I did that yesterday. The more I looked at my birdfeeder flower project the more I hated it. I ...»
thought about it all night. This morning I finally figured out what to do. Here is my new and improved Flower Totem. I'm much happier now, lol

Judy, we all want to learn, which is why I pointed out why the rebar was there and why a ...»
stepping stone would not work. I actually thought about a stepping stone to set the chinese garden seat on until my hubby pointed out that there was a possibility that it could crack if he drilled it. By using the concrete ring to set the seat on we solved the problem. Lighten up and enjoy! Thats what HomeTalk is all about

Flowered Bird Feeder

Rebar was set 4ft in the ground, concrete base was then placed, then garden seat. Using different pieces of glass between the pots added color. I chose using plain terra cotta pots for ...»
this particular piece because of the glass inserts. Topped it off with a copper dish for feeding the birds. Completed project is 6 ft. tall

tire planters

Using a lawnmower tire, which I painted, made the perfect planter for ivy. This adds a lot of color to my otherwise drab exterior wall of our deck. We plant to do one in lime green, blue and red...it will look like lifesavers hanging off of the wall
