Boy's bedroom revamp of awesomeness!

This boy's bedroom was created on a tight, tight budget with creativity! A pallet bed, wood slat headboard, "custom" curtains, and even a reading nook.

Easter garden

I wanted to create a visual reminder of what Easter means to us. Loved this Easter garden idea. A great gardening type project to do with your kids that will help them understand the true ...»
story of Easter.

  • The Barn Patio Pergola Area - the potted plants have finally taken off! 1
  • The four Amigo's - four of our hens pecking about the yard - the nine free range chickens give us almost nine eggs a day
  • Big Bertha Green Pepper just waiting to be plucked from the plant 1
  • Here is the morning's take out of the garden – Needless to say – canning season is here!
  • Our favorite ornamental pepper - the sangria - turns form purple to red and orange 1
  • Up close of the sangrias turning
  • The view from above the garden...The Tomatoes and Peppers are really taking off – we are picking over a bushel a day now.
  • We had our first barn party ever at the farm - here three young ones look in on the chickens
  • The Ornamental Poinsettia Pepper plants planted at the upper pergola are FINALLY starting to turn. The peppers should start to become a beautiful mix of red, yellow and greens. The plants have really held up well to the hotter, dryer conditions.
  • Continuing on with the recycle and re-use theme – here is our new address sign – made from one of the old barn windows.
  • A colorful bowl...The Mini Bell Peppers have proven to be a great addition to the garden. Beautiful colors and super sweet to eat. The orange peppers in the picture are our Tequila Sunrise – they pack the heat!
  • The Hot Banana Peppers just continue to produce – really one of the best overall performers in the garden
  • The straw between the rows has really helped keep the garden looking neat and weed free
  • The Cajun Belle Peppers -It has quickly become our favorite pepper to eat - sweet and a little heat.
  • One of the other accomplishments for July was getting the outdoor kitchen finished. Here is a view of the finished kitchen from the upper pergola.
  • Another view of the rustic outdoor kitchen finished in August
  • The view of the progress of the farm (August 2012)

The Farm, Garden and Landscape In Photos

Each month - as a progress check for our landscape efforts - we photograph the farm and garden as the days and months go by - here are the August photos: We have built almost everything ...»
on the farm from recycled, re-used or re-purposed materials - and try hard to show that being a good steward of the land can still result in a good view! You can look at our whole story and our farm at our blog : www.oldworldgardenfarms.com or our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Old-World-Gard...

  • Looking in to the garden. 1
  • Detail along the right side path. On the right is a stone birdbath. The rear wall is a shaped fieldstone wall that we built on-site.
  • Side view of the garden looking across the bubbling rock and through the Torii gate.
  • Detail looking across the copper fountain wall. I decided to make more detailed copper spouts when I did these, it took a little more work, but the final product is more unique.
  • Looking in to the garden.
  • Another view down the right path.
  • Detail of the fieldstone wall and the koi tank.
  • Rear section of the garden.
  • The bubbling rock feature. It is a real fieldstone boulder that had the perfect shape. We drilled the rock to create this feature.

Photos of our garden at the Southeastern Flower Show

We designed and installed a garden for the Atlanta Koi Club at the Southeastern Flower Show. It was a fun experience and we won 2 major awards from the judges. Only sad part was that ...»
after all of the hard work setting it up, 3 days later we took it all down and it was gone forever. All that remains is the memories and photographs. We built and installed everything that is seen in this garden.

  • I mixed 1 tablespoon of modge podge, one teaspoon of water, 3 drops of blue food coloring and 1 drop of green food coloring. You can play around with the colors as much as you would like.

Painted the color on the outside of the jars

  • One of my favorite ways I upcycle these jars is by using them for storage in the bathroom. I glued on some cute knobs for a little extra touch as well. :)
  • They also make for great storage in the office whether to hold pens or for craft storage like beads and buttons. 1
  • Used with some small beads they make for great makeup brush holders as well.
  • or random things too... I like to keep one of these jars by my laundry area for loose change.

New & Creative Uses for Old Jars

Do you like to upcycle your old candle jars, mason jars, glass bottles or food cans? I know I do and some of my favorite ones to upcycle are the 3-wick jars from BBW. Here are some of the ways I like to reuse them around my home.
