Hello!

My house is a month old and has a covered CEDAR front porch. I want the spindles and railings to be white to match the rest of the trim and want the porch floor and stairs to be a darker gray. I'm wondering if it would be better to paint the porch or use a solid-color stain? I want the option with the lowest long-term maintenance!I live in Maine, in case the weather/climate is a factor in determining the recommendation!

  • I think paint is a good option for you and your color choices will definitely blend in with the existing. Did you just recently add the porch?

I use a solid color stain on my decks. Kinda like paint! You say its a month old? I'd wait awhile to makes sure the PT wood is dried out. Might want to talk to a paint store guy for advice
  • I am in Maine as well. For the deck, I recommend a urethene deck and floor paint. I normally use the Ben-Moore deck paint. For the rails you have a myriad of goodchoices, one easy would be a BM Solid colour stain. IN a paint, I would recomend the SW Duration

definitely paint and match the existing trim. Love the color of the door. and i would use the BM deck paint on the spindles as well becasue that stuff is tough as nails so less upkeep. Add a few boxwoods to the front for a little curb appeal and you have a great little porch. Well Done!
