Any tips on sanding & refinishing hardwood floor?

  • Lots of tips for you! What condition is the floor currently in? And what are you trying to do? is the floor just dull, or is it really scratched up a lot? Are you planning to change the color? What type of traffic will the newly finished floor be expected to have? Where is the floor? Kitchen, bath, bedrooms or other rooms in the house. Floor sanding can be done in several ways. From a complete stripping down to unfinished wood, or a screen type sanding that removes basically just the top layer of poly finish. And another method that uses a square sanding machine that has four round sanding pads under it, much like a single pad hand held sanding unit but with four all next to each other. Knowing what your looking to do will make this post a whole lot shorter with how to do it once we have an understanding of what your trying to accomplish.

The floor is in a bedroom and has areas that are yellowed from finish. Quite scratched at entry way. Would need a complete stripping down to unfinshed wood but the screen sanding would work and then stained a darker color. Quite blonde now. Has just had carpet removed. Thank you for your assistance,,,Carolyn
