I'd like to see what people say about this too - Have the same problem!

I do too. I would also like to know if anyone has ever used cast iron on these tops. I have fry pans but I am afraid they are going to break the glass.

Yes we use cast iron, just be VERY CAREFUL and DO NOT SLIDE it, or it will scratch.

I don't have one yet I have used oven cleaner on my glass inside my oven as well as using it on the enamel on the top of stove. It works beautifully. I just warm the stove by starting burners then shutting them off. Spray, wait then wipe.

Cerama Bryte works great. Just follow directions and it does the job. If you wipe up spills before they dry it makes it a lot easier to clean.

I have used Mr. Magic eraser, it does work, after using the razor blade. Does leave a film, just wipe up with soap and water. I have also used Bartenders cleaner it also works well.

@Wendy Thanks. I use that also, but sometimes there is still a stain almost like a stain left. I have a white stove top so it shows everything.

If your cooktop is old, you may have stains and scratches that will never come out. In my former home, I had a white ceramic cooktop that was 25+ years old. After so many years of use, it got to a point where there was always a stain/scratch ring, especially around the outside edge of the burners I used most often. Nothing I tried ever took it off. I currently have a black ceramic cooktop that is only 4 years old so although I don't see a staining problem (yet, maybe because it's black), I do see evidence of what I suspect are small scratches developing though. As far as cleaners go, I've tried them all, both commercial (like Cerama Bryte and Weiman), homemade concoctions (including baking soda etc.), and other products like Soft Scrub, bleach etc. About a year ago I found Carbona Ceramic Cooktop Power Cleaner and without a doubt, it has given me the best results with the least amount of effort. Nothing else I've tried even comes close to working as well. It truly puts Cerama Bryte and the Weiman products to shame. If you can't get it off with Carbona, then it's not coming off with anything.

Can . I still use the stove after the glass cracks ?
    • Wendy Wendy on Oct 30, 2014
@Ardy Bandstra I was told that if the glass cracks it would be cheaper to replace the whole stove, rather than just the class. Meaning the glass top is very expensive. I'm not sure about using the stove with broken glass, I don't think I would. Consult your owners manual, or store where purchased.

Try oven cleaner! My cleaning lady uses that on my cooktop and it comes out amazing!

Pew are on our third glass top stove and unless gas is an option I would not have anything else! I use ceramic cooktop cleaner (made especially for them) and in a pinch, have used Barkeepers Friend. You will always see a little bit of wear from normal everyday use, but with regular cleaning it can almost always look good. I too have made a mistake and melted something plastic on a hot burner but as long as you clean it as soon as it happens, you should not have a problem. To answer the question of whether to cook on a cracked cooktop? I'm not sure, would probably ask the manufacturer. FYI - we have a GE model with 4 burners (2 with small burners also) and a warming burner so it's like we have seven different sized burners. The oven's element is top only and the oven area is extra large!

After the burners cool, sprinkle with baking soda. Then spray hydrogen peroxide on that just to moisten it well. Let sit for a little while, go back and wipe off the burned on food. Rinse really well. Good luck.

pumice stone, doesn't scratch and can be used in a lot of areas in the home

I do the same Thanks. So I think soda works as much as anything.

A very new razor blade and non scratch Soft Scrub works for me... Not sure why its not helping you. I like Patsy's "baking soda & hydrogen peroxide" idea too... Really wish there was an option for gas in my neighborhood. I abhor electric.

I just cam across this site. We bought a new Jen Air electric range/oven. It has the flat top and need a daily cleaner to use after using it for everyday meals. My old Thermadore had a metal covering and we used 409 all the time without any issues for 24 years. Can 409 be used or window cleaners? I have used Dove and water but it leaves a film. I know there is a restriction on some cleaners due to some large word that is in the cleaner. Will vinegar hurt the range top?
