Susan, not sure what the problem is. All things are fine on the blog. I used a copper and brass napkin ring for the hole. Up top it a vintage canister lid with a piece of filigree jewelry. Thanks for the generous comments everyone!
So clever and cute! Have you ever had birds move in? I redid a bird house with bright paint this year and before I could get my porch redo finished, they had moved in. Then the mother bird put up such a fuss every time we stepped out onto the porch, we decided to not use it until she had raised her family and moved out! (But then it was over 100 degrees in Atlanta so we did not really mind.)
That's funny Jeanette. Many birds have moved into my customer's houses. Mostly wrens. They love the quirkiest places! I urge my customers to place them out of sunlight in the summer and out of harsh winds and weather in the winter and everything works out just fine. Must of them just keep them inside to enjoy.
Five years ago we moved into our present home and because we were still unsettled a couple hanging pots were set on the ground on my front porch. So a mallard duck moved in and laid a couple eggs - right near our front door. The hanging basic next to my back door had a dove and the one at the end of the house had another type bird. I was so surprised but we were trying to get our house in order and so were in and out a lot. lol. The next coupleyears the mallard came back but the other

birds found different nests. Of course we have 3 cats and 2 dogs which may have had something to do with it.
Thanks Gadget. So do I. We've had plenty of squirrels and rabbits plus a few butterflies but that first year here was such a surprise. I have been planting a lot of bushes/flowers so am hoping that will encourage more birds and butterflies.
Sondra, for butterflies try some butterfly weed, some zennias, butterfly/bottle bush, and some lantana. For birds, definitely go with small fruit bearing trees that produce edible berries and such. Good luck!
lol, Sharron. No kidding! Actually I am mostly working on my backyard so no worries there.
Thanks for the suggestions Gadget. Lately I have also been noticing an oppossum running across our back fence. I know it doesnt dare come down into the yard because of our pitbull. She loves to chase everything that runs along that fence! I have quite a group of raspberries but I dont like to share those. lol.
The license plate birdhouses are great! Just remember to keep them in the shade, the hot sun will be very harmful to the birds, as it will get too hot inside the metal for them to nest!
Thanks Cheryl. I stress that to all my customers. Out of the sun, under a porch and out of harsh winds and elements in winter. Mostly wrens nest in them. But probably 85% of my customers keep them inside to enjoy and look at.
