hardwood floor on slab buckling repair
-
Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Oct 10, 2014@Kathryn Stough Any wood floor that is over a slab or over a basement or even a crawl space is subject to buckling if moisture levels are higher then the area above the floor itself. The buckling is caused by moisture causing the wood to expand and because there is no room for the expansion to take place it pushes up. A great example although I hope a lot worse then what you have is pictured on my profile page where a leak destroyed several levels of wood flooring. In your case dependent upon how bad this buckling is you could get lucky by using a dehumidifier to dry the floor and hopefully allowing it to drop back down. However this is a very slight chance that this will occur. The only correct method of repair is to pull it up and re-install it once again. However if you fail to repair the cause of the moisture any new wood floor or even laminate type will buckle and fail in short order. Depending upon the cause of this damage, you may have an insurance claim. Check with your insurance company on this. And make sure you fix the moisture issue before fixing the floor.Helpful Reply
