Has anyone had a bathtub re-finished? Would you do it again?

I have not had it refinished, but I have heard it is a better option when compared to buying new. I also would suggest you hire a professional bath-tub refinished company to this for you.

I had a tub and tiles resurfaced professionally and I couldn't be happier. The tub was gold and I could no longer get it clean. The tiles in the tub surround were beige and chocolate brown. The entire surface is now a beautiful, clean white. I love it.

I have had it done, not for my own home, but for a home that I remodeled for an investment company. This stuff is tough, I was impressed. The finish is like glass, and like Wanda said, beautiful, clean white.
    • We had the 60's green and white shower surround, tub, and vanity top/sink done. This is the "during"

We offer this as an option to our clients, however we do not warranty the work. The reason is that after 5 years or so, the rust might start coming through again. The glazing also can come up if you use harsh chemicals to clean it. If you gently clean the glazing and monitor for flaking, then it is a great affordable alternative to a whole new bathroom.

I had this done to a very old tub & sink by a professional and after 3 years (no warranty) it started to flake off. Due to finances I now have a multicolored tub & sink. Very sad looking, but they are very odd sized and would have to take walls out to put new in. Not happening.

@Deborah...I have heard of this happening, the prep work, and the product play a huge part in the longevity of this type of finish. The company I use has a commercial product they apply for us, and we couldn't be happier. Inferior products will yield a much shorter lifespan, and that combined with poor prep. This may be what happened to you. If so, your tub is lucky to have lasted as long as it did...

re-finishing the tub works well as long as it is done by a professional who uses good quality products, you can also have the tub "overlaid" with a custom fitted acrylic material such as the RE-BATH system. we have had several clients do this, it is clean, lasts a long time and from what i have seen they stand behind their work/product if there is an issue.

oh, and i know the whold custom thing sounds super expensive, but when compared to removing and replacing the tub, its ALOT cheaper. : )
