"A River Runs Through It"

When we were building our home I had a vision of course. Every rooms finishes I had planned out. I even had the wallpaper for the dining room and the master bedroom ceiling in my possession long before we ever broke ground. I had a plan! My husband's plan however- quite different. In an effort to save money I volunteered (more like, if you want it, you have to do it...and I wanted it!) to do all the tiling. I decided to add a little of my own, unique flair to the master bathroom. I call it, "A River Runs Through It". I love the way it turned out.
I started with the "River." I found these great tiles at a discount tile shop and fell in love.
I penciled in the basic shape for the river and laid the tile on a diagonal.
Once I got the river done I simply smashed a neutral tile and began filling in the edges. This is the same tile I used on the walls.
My husband hated it at first. He was sure he'd cut his feet walking on it. No blood loss yet!
Here's the finished product. If I had it to do over again I think I'd go crazy and run it up the wall too vs. dying into the cabinet. That might have pushed my hubby right over the edge.

I love this and have been considering something similar. How did you cut the tiles?

i love this - I had thought it was "carpet" that you cut a remnant into a river!

My cheap re-dos have included "carpet" in the bathroom a quality remnant cut down to carpet the bathroom a cheap, fast, luxurious trick NOT flimsy bathroom carpet a piece of good carpet.

When it look dirty, or begins to smell throw it in the garbage and cut down another remnant.

Your river of tile looks GREAT!

That's very creative! Yet, I cannot imagine a standing piece of carpet in any bathroom used by the men in my house. Yikes!
