African Violets

A TIPical Day
by A TIPical Day
Growing up I always remember my Grandmother's dining room window teaming with African Violets. As a little girl I always thought they were so pretty. That hasn't changed much. When my grandmother died, I was given some that now sit in my own dining room window. I had no idea how to care for them, so I did my research and they are still happy and growing.
Violets don't like extreme heat. Keep them in a south facing window with temperatures between 70 - 80 degrees. They can handle it being around 60 degrees at night.
Always water from below. Pouring water into a small dish about once a week is perfect for them.
Be careful not to get the leaves wet as they will turn white on you.

Beautiful! My Mom could make them thrive and if I as much as looked at them, they gasped and died! I learned to leave them alone!

My grandmother always had African violets, too. How wonderful that you have some that belonged to yours.
