Ah-ha! We're in the same weather system! Yours looks great!! -
Great minds think alike they say. It is gorgeous here today. -
Wow What a Beautiful Picture! Both of them...LOL -
so pretty! gloomy over on my side of the state (but always grateful for rain;) -
Pretty funny: 2 people in different states taking the same pictures. 8-) -
Pretty! I have several crepe myrtles in our yard. They do rather well here in OKlahoma. -
I wish I could have crepe myrtle in my yard. These are so pretty! -
I wonder Marg if you couldn't purchase the shrub type of crepe myrtle and just bring it in when the weather gets too cold. Crepe Myrtles lose their leaves in the winter time, going dormant, and my crepes have never seemed to suffer ill effects during the last series of freezes we got. But, I wouldn't want to tempt the fates; I'd bring it in up there. -
I wonder if it would survive the winter in my garage. It isn't heated but it will out of the harsh conditions. And then, to try and find a nursery that sells it knowing it isn't zone 5 tolerant :S -
Oh wow, i thought those things could survive anywhere...LOL I know there are things I can't have, it didn't occur to me how lucky I am to have my crepe Myrtles....One thing I'll say about wintering over is, that my ferns survived fine in the garage without heat, but the lack of sunlight almost did them in, and the fact that I didn't water them the first year almost caused me to lose them. So I learned , they need at least some indirect light and small amounts of water about every two ...» -
Sharron, how do you transport your plants to the garage for over wintering? 2 yrs. ago, when we had multiple serious freezes, I finally broke down and bought a hand truck so I could haul several plants at one time. Otherwise, it would take anywhere from 30 to 45 mins. for me to haul them all inside. -
this image makes the perfect inspiration for a summer color palette... -

This is gorgeous! My crepe myrtles are just starting to bloom. I love those first two weeks of the bloom when they are so vibrant! -
Kyle, you are growing them in NJ? That's encouraging for Marg, who was asking if they might grow in NY. I hope she checks back in on this post to see you've had success with them there. Anything special you have to do to keep them healthy there? -
this IS encouraging! too bad we don't have them at the store anymore...I was discussing them with a customer who is 84! and she's going to try it and let me know if they survive :)
