New kitchen cabinets

We are putting in kitchen cabinets in our newly build home and our decor is Early American-Primitive. Any suggestions on if I should have them painted & what color, or keep them wood?

Which do you like better? That decision would be your personal preference. I love the white cabinets you see now but that is only my opinion........yours might be different. Go with what YOU like!

I would paint them one color for the top cabinets and a different color for the bottom. They could be in the same color family with the darker color on bottom or complimentary colors. What is the flooring that should help you decide.

To Kelly S. It will be tile with the wood floor look, most likely a dark oak color. I like the painted idea, it's the color that is getting to me. My table and chairs are washed out blue with a maple top. To Elaine, I had white cabinets in Florida and want to stay away from that particular color.

I would paint them a gray color, and maybe do a light distressing on them.

Early American/Primative? I would go with a natural knotty pine shacker style.

I'd go with wood or painted bases and have the upper cabinets either have glass doors or chicken wire with gathered fabric backing, getting the whole look to be more like furniture pieces than modern cupboards. I've seen this done and it really looks awesome and would fit in with your design style. You can add "feet" and corbels to add to the furniture piece look.

I am planing the same thing. I want black cabinets, with very distressed edges. To add light to the space I am putting in a skylight. My biggest dilemma is what material and color for counter tops. I am considering butcher block but may be too much wood. Any suggestions?
