My wheelbarrow planter

I planted this wheelbarrow with two kinds of Lantana and Creeping Jenny for a sunny garden spot in the side yard. See more at http://ourfairfieldhomeandgarden.com or

Does The Creeping Jenny come back? I Know the lantana won't, it doesn't here unless you take it inside...But am completely unfamiliar with Creeping Jenny.... It Looks just LUSH and Beautiful! I love this a LOT!

Mary, often times some plants are banned in some states and not others. I'm sure Barb can tell you about her state.

Mary - creeping jenny is not banned in Delaware. If you are unsure about your state, Google "invasive plant species + your state" to find out. Also, usually if it is sold in local nurseries it is not a banned plant.

i just did my wheel barrel like this but put mums in it for fall, does anybody know if the creeping jenny will survive in wheel barrel over the winter and return in spring?

In our zone 6/7 garden, creeping jenny comes back in a container garden. I'd love you to share a picture of your creation Kathy!

if creeping jenny is anything like creeping charlie, don't ever let it touch the ground or you'll be sorry! I've got it in my backyard and other than pulling it all up by hand, the stuff you need to spray on it will also kill grass!

I plant creeping jenny in my flower beds in the shade. It is a fast spreader in sunny spots, Pam.

You are right, Laurie B ! Creeping Jenny will spread quickly though in sunny areas but is easy to pull up. I use the extras in hanging pots and plants. You can even use it in a water garden!

Bonnie G , I'm so happy you are making your own and hope you'll share it with us! Right off the top of my head, I would put a nice showy hibiscus in the middle that goes nicely with the color of my petunias. It will be tall, bloom all season and draw butterflies. Happy Gardening!

Barb Rosen I am getting ready to do something more with my barrow...last year I put herbs in it, the root system got so big I had to dig them out. I had put screen netting on the bottom of the barrow to keep the soil from leaking out the bottom, and the roots grew into the screen. Right now some violas made it through the winter, and are blooming. but I think the barrow is not very deep. How deep is yours, and how much depth do you need for jenny, lantana hibiscus etc? Yours is so pretty.

Bernice H , creeping jenny and lantana are very shallow rooted. The hibiscus or butterfly bush have a bigger root ball so I would center them in the deepest part and fill in with the rest. My wheelbarrow is just the standard depth, it isn't an extra big one or anything. Have fun and share your pictures : )

OMG... that is a great IDEA! I have a wheelborrow sitting in the back yard, never used, & w/ a flat tire & I also have that watering can. Ty 4 the great idea!!! Can u tell me what type of soil that u used? Do u have drainage? I was thinking about drilling small holes possibly. Or lots of stones/rocks. we have plenty of them here.
