DIY Shabby Wood Number Makeover

I had been looking for a wooden number 5 for about 2 years now... while at Hobby Lobby one day I came across the perfect one. I transformed the plain wooden number into shabby chic cuteness perfect for any bookshelf!
The number 5 is significant to me because there are 5 precious people in my home.
Here is the wooden 5 I found at Hobby lobby before the makeover. I started out by spray painting it a metallic gold. I wanted the gold to show through when I distressed it.
After I let the gold dry... I spray painted it white... I actually used a spray paint white primer. Nothing fancy. Craft paint would also do the trick if that is what you already have on hand.
